Life is smooth.

Tasty, healthy and even rejuvenating. Smoothies are real all-rounders that many Hollywood stars swear by. Particularly the latest version – green smoothies. With the addition of herbs and vegetables these wellness drinks can take the place of complete meals and represent a detox wonder weapon in a glass. With the right equipment and fresh ingredients you can make them for yourself at home. Turn on your mixer, get set, go!

After red and orange comes green. This trend is also being seen in smoothies – and is causing a real stir in blender and mixer sales. Smoothies are literally on everyone’s lips.

For a long time orange and red smoothies have been extremely popular – and no wonder! The combination of delicious berries, lemons, oranges and lots of other fruits make the velvety-smooth drink a healthy alternative to traditional fruit juices and provide a filling snack as well as lots of vitamins. All the important nutrients you need in a single glass – that’s a real winner for workaholics! Now green energy providers are coming into the mix. Spinach, Swiss chard, rocket and herbs combined with the sweetness of fruit make green smoothies real power drinks.

“Over the past years green smoothies have become increasingly popular as healthy snacks and to help people lose weight and detox. Fruit, salad vegetables and leafy greens are blended together with natural spring water in a high-performance mixer to create a quick, delicious drink. Beverages prepared in this way provide the body with vital nutrients, vitamins, trace elements, enzymes and anti-oxidants,” explain Johannes Schrenk and Oliver Scheuermann, owners of ‘Wir essen Blumen’ (We Eat Flowers), the first green smoothie bar in Frankfurt am Main.

In addition to its exclusively vegan food and beverages, high-performance mixers play a vital part in this small, sophisticated local smoothie bar with its inviting interior.  Particularly when it comes to smoothies, as Oliver Scheuermann explains: “For daily use we recommend a machine that runs at approx. 30,000 rpm, such as Vitamix. If you already have a Thermomix, you can use that.”But just what do these green energy packs taste like? Here’s a recipe from ‘Wir essen Blumen’ that can easily be made at home with either of the mixers mentioned above:

Fruity green smoothie (makes approx. 1.5 litres)

3 handfuls of spinach
3 sprigs of parsley
1/2 pineapple
1/2 persimmon
1 orange, peeled
1/2 litre of water
